Data on animals in shelters is important because it allows us to have statistics on the number and condition of abandoned animals on our island. This data also helps us to develop strategies for disease prevention and animal welfare.

Thanks to this data we can

To have a clearer idea of how many stray animals are being collected from public places or are being delivered to shelters by other entities such as municipalities or their owners. Also, the species, their state of health, the reasons why they were delivered and many other important data to understand the situation of pets in Puerto Rico.

Develop protocols

For the treatment and prevention of zoonotic diseases (those transmitted from animals to humans and vice versa). To develop public policy on the control and protection of animals, as well as action plans by both private enterprises and the government, with the purpose of reducing the population of abandoned animals.

Educational programs

Specific topics identified as a priority to educate our population on what good treatment of animals entails and the responsibility, we have to offer them adequate care. Justify bills related to the control of stray animal populations and the prevention of zoonotic diseases.

Justify

With proposed statistics for the solicitation of funds from private non-profit entities for the protection of animals and municipal and state governmental entities. These funds can be used for the purpose of providing services to pets such as vaccination, sterilization and sheltering. In addition, the development of educational campaigns on disease prevention and animal welfare, among many other services. Using this database, research can be carried out to improve the quality of life of our pets and safeguard public health.

Sharing helps us all

You even help your own organization, whether private or governmental. This way, priorities, efforts and resources are established to help abandoned pets, as well as the identification of the areas with the greatest need for stray animal control. In addition, vaccination, sterilization, euthanasia and other important data are identified.

Who can participate?

All shelters, sanctuaries, veterinary clinics, animal control centers, whether private for-profit or non-profit, government or independent rescuers may participate. Whose purpose is to receive, collect or rescue animals in Puerto Rico.

How to register?

Creating an account is easy, if you own a veterinary clinic, or shelter or you are a rescuer go to the registration page, fill in the required fields, and join us. For more details, you can visit our registration guide.

How can you join?

Your participation to achieve animal control in Puerto Rico is essential. If you are a shelter, sanctuary, veterinary clinic, animal control centers or independent rescuers you can register and enter in our system all the animals you have in your facilities. 

On the other hand, if you are looking to find that new family member, you are in the right place. Access our adoption page and find the one that's right for you. 

How do I enter my data?

Welcome to OECA, once registered add each of your animals and complete the requested fields. We will be requesting the basic information of each animal such as name, photo, breed, age, gender, vaccinations, and health status, among others. If you have not registered yet, click here.

How can I adopt?

It's simple, access our adoption page and when you find the ideal one for you, you just have to call or write to the entity to know the adoption process of your new family member.
